OLPC Quo Vadis?

by Juned on April 25th, 2008

I just finished reading Clair’s lament over the decision OLPC to drop Linux and adopt Windows XP when a quick scan of the news seems to point to a recent restructuring at OLPC that seems to suggest a significant change with OLPC. Gone are the Old Guards and their policies. In with the new, It is the way of the world.

Walter Bender left OLPC to reflect, read his statement here. And nearly at the same time Nicholas Negroponte has been saying that he will not be out of OLPC and the OLPC XO will run Windows in the next sixty days (This was March 10).

I remember when the OLPC was announced. It was very attractive. It was a rebel and it even had the wind-up thing-a-ma-jig on the side to provide it with power. Then it seems as if nothing happend.

Then something did and that something was the Asus Eee. Somehow it does seem that the success of Asus Eee has speeded up the changes happening at OLPC.

What do you think?

Hi there, Juned. In with the new huh? It sucks, if you ask me. Couldn’t there have been other means to do things? Not the Microsoft way… No~~~~~!
