Essentials of the Digital Nomad
Are you a digital nomad?
Every morning I wake up, open the computer and check the Internet for email and check my rss reader. Then I go to work, where I open the computer connect to the Internet and work. In between that and from time I open up the Asus Eee to work and write. I have become a digital nomad.
A lot of us have. Maybe its the effect of technology and our changing lifestyle. Or maybe not: Its just that the tools have changed. But what are the essential tools for the Digital Nomad?
Webworker daily provides us with a list tools for the digital nomad in a post, 5 Essentials for the mobile web worker.
And the Webworker mentions the following:
Online Storage
Public Wi-Fi Security Tools
Hassle-Removing Sites
Consider a Super Lightweight Subnotebook (Ultraportable Computer)
USB Thumb Drive
For me I what I find to be the essentials can be narrowed down to two essentials:
First, An ultraportable computer that can connect seamlessly to the Web and comes fully equipped with office and communication applications.
Second, A fistfull of thumbdrives that cam be used to store data and run portable apps.
My choice slightly differs probably because my needs are slightly different. I am a Digital Nomad that often writes and communicates. And sometimes it is a plus to be disconnected from the Web. If you get what I mean.
Anyway, I prefer the Asus Eee over the MBA because its cheaper and can function like a proper computer. One advantage of this is the Asus Eee can easily be replaced when one has to. And in case it does breakdown your data is safe because it is stored and backed up in your thumb drive.
Well … that is it for me.
Now what would you consider the essential things needed by a digital nomad?
